Furniture manufacturer employs 159 workers in Monson
SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE MOOSEHEAD MANUFACTURING COMPANY TO RECEIVE $150,000 TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE FUNDS

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins are pleased to announce that Moosehead Manufacturing Company, Inc. has received approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce for $150,000, the maximum limit, in cost shared technical assistance through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program for manufacturing firms.

Moosehead Manufacturing Company, a family-owned business based in Monson, is a manufacturer of hardwood household furniture. The company was founded in 1947 and currently employs 159 workers.

The purpose of the TAA program is to help domestic manufacturers compete more effectively with imports. The funding awarded to Moosehead Manufacturing will provide the company with market research, development of promotional materials, product design, inventory programs, and industrial engineering to improve productivity.

"TAA for Firms funding will greatly assist this Maine furniture manufacturer," said Senators Snowe and Collins. "Domestic furniture manufacturers are facing extreme, and often unfair, foreign competition. Currently, anti-dumping duties are being levied on over 110 separate Chinese furniture producers that were found to be unfairly dumping bedroom furniture in the United States. Though these duties are helpful, domestic furniture manufacturers, such as Moosehead Manufacturing, need additional support to ensure viability."

Since the program was founded in 1999, TAA for Firms has helped to retain or create over 48,000 jobs in communities nationwide.
