Hardwood Products recognized

AUGUSTA - In celebration of National Employ Older Workers week, Hardwood Products Company LP of Guilford was recognized by the Maine Jobs Council as a model employer of older workers.

Terry Young, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Hardwood Products Company was on hand to accept the Maine Silver Collar Employer 2007 award from Maine's Commissioner of Labor, Laura Fortman.

"Hardwood Products Company is proud to be able to demonstrate our commitment to a diverse and vibrant workforce and to support our community", Young stated.

The Silver Collar Employer award is given to employers in Maine whose policies and practices match the needs of mature employees, capturing their skills and experience, strong work ethic, flexibility and enthusiasm.

"Hardwood Products Company actively promotes a positive working environment and supports its older workers with training, mentoring and job coaching opportunities," said Fortman.

A recent Census survey noted that the share of older workers in Maine's workforce is growing. Approximately 15 percent of the Maine workforce is currently over the age of 55, and during the period between 2001 and 2004 all Maine counties experienced ' an increase in older workers.

"Successful businesses recognize that keeping experienced, motivated employees is a key to their success," Fortman said. "Hardwood Products Company recognizes and benefits from the qualities older workers bring to their jobs."
