$457,104 IN Rural Development Grant

PENQUIS - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program has granted combined $457,104 in funding to three Maine development agencies. The grants will be used to provide support for financial and technical assistance to help reduce homeowner energy use.

Specifically, the funding will be allocated as follows:

"With the help of these funds, these communities citizens will be able to better weather the upcoming winter," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "We applaud the USDA for releasing this funding."

The USDA Rural Development program provides financial loans and grants to help improve the economy and quality of life in all of rural America. The funds are used for community programs, which seek to construct or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and public services.
