Monday, October 04, 2004
Albany, NY - With Bentley Prince Street at 100% renewable electricity and significant achievements in other Americas based business units, Interface, Inc. was today honored with a Green Power Leadership Award presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) at the National Green Power Marketing Conference. Interface was nominated for the award by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and was recognized for its efforts to significantly advance development of the green power market through green power purchases.

"Green power purchases are a key strategy in achieving our global goals for renewable energy," said Mike Bertolucci, Ph.D., president, Interface Research Corporation and senior vice president, Interface, Inc. "Interface’s ten year commitment to sustainability has been marked by tremendous progress on this front. The national green power market is growing in response to demand from companies like ours that have identified and embraced the importance of creating green power markets. It is in keeping with our sustainability vision for us to continue to lead the way in hopes that others will join us on this journey."

The particulars of Interface’s achievements include:

  • Renewable energy credit (REC) purchases equivalent to 8,807 megawatt hours (mWh)
  • Four Interface Fabrics facilities collectively committed to purchase 2,500 mWh/yr of Green-e certified wind RECs to offset the electricity used in the manufacture of one million linear yards of their Terratex® panel and upholstery fabric.
  • Bentley Prince Street committed to a six-year purchase of RECs derived from biomass and wind, equal to approximately 80% of their total electrical load. Coupled with the renewable electricity they were already purchasing through the grid, and the electricity they generated with an on-site photovoltaic array, Bentley Prince Street has now achieved 100% renewable electricity at their manufacturing facility in City of Industry, California.
  • Interface Flooring Systems committed to purchase 408 mWh/yr of wind RECs
