MAINE - The Composite Technology Center (CTC), a State of Maine sponsored business incubator organization located in Sanford, Greenville, and the University of Maine, recently elected new officers for the 2004-05 year. John Simko of Greenville was elected President. Simko, Town Manager of Greenville and longtime economic development supporter, stated his pleasure at the progress of the CTC in assisting small composite businesses. "Our efforts to support entrepreneurs who wish to commercialize high technology composite products will have a healthy economic impact on our State. Already, we're seeing signs that incubator supported businesses will have greater chances of success that the national average." Simko noted that the Greenville incubator building would be available for occupancy in early 2005 and that entrepreneurs are already starting to make inquiries. Outgoing President Rick Stanley expressed confidence in the mandate of the CTC and reflected on his term as president: "During the beginning of this venture, we had no space to house and support up-and-coming composite businesses. Our efforts have solidified Sanford, Greenville, and Orono as centers of the composite sector in Maine." Stanley noted that the Sanford incubator, located at 60 Community Drive in the Sanford Industrial Park, has almost reached full capacity. Other elected officers included: Jack Smith as Vice President, Mark Scarano as Secretary, Rick Stanley as Treasurer. Returning Directors include: John Holden, Bill Lemos, Jack Ward, Scott Hersey, and Bob Lindyberg. In addition to electing officers, the CTC Board of Directors also hired their own administrator to better organize and carry out the incubator's day to day activities. Gordon Davis, a resident of Alna, was hired as a contracted administrator to the CTC. His background includes previous business counseling experience with business development organizations such as the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development and the Wiscasset based Coastal Enterprises Incorporated. Davis is hardly new to entrepreneurial environments, however, as he both owned and operated three technically oriented businesses throughout his life. |
