The Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) and the Town of Milo recently received notice that Milo was the recipient of $475,000 in Economic Development Initiative funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. These funds will be used to extend town sewer services another 1,260 feet to the entrance of the Eastern Piscataquis Industrial Park site. According to PCEDC Executive Director Thomas Kittredge, “This project is vitally important for business development in the Eastern Piscataquis region. The addition of sewer services to the industrial park site will make it far more attractive for business development, as well as dramatically increase the amount of land that could be potentially utilized at that site, by eliminating the need for land and capital-intensive onsite septic systems.” This request, originally for $500,000, was submitted to the offices of Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and Congressman Michael Michaud in early 2008. Prior to this award, the PCEDC had assisted in obtaining $544,500 in federal funding for the development of the Eastern Piscataquis Industrial Park site. The Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) is a countywide organization whose mission is to stimulate long-term sustainable economic development and growth throughout the region.
