The Executive Committee of the PCEDC presents the Myrick Award each year to recognize a Piscataquis County citizen, business, or organization who exemplifies Pete Myrick's concern for and commitment to education, economic development, and/or civic leadership in the region. Myrick, a Guilford resident who died in 2002, was a longtime educator in MSAD #4 and a founder of the PCEDC, serving as the Council's president in 2001.
Criteria considered in determining the award winner included the overall impact of the candidate's accomplishments, the duration of the candidate's engagement in community service activities, and the breadth of community involvement. Taylor was nominated by a coalition of her family, friends, and co-workers.
Taylor was specifically recognized for her and the Credit Union's involvement in the "Ending Hunger in Maine" campaign, as well as community events such as Dexter's Wild West Weekend, Dover-Foxcroft's Homecoming, Guilford's Piscataquis River Festival, and the annual Maine Highlands FCU Tip-Off Classic Basketball Tournament. She was also cited for her role in increasing the level of financial education among the region's students, through providing a Financial Fitness Fair to area schools, encouraging teachers to bring their students into the Credit Union for tours, and visiting classrooms to speak on various financial topics.
Taylor has also served on the Boards of Directors of the Charlotte White Center, the Kennebec Valley Chapter of Credit Union's Board of Directors, and the PCEDC. In addition, she has also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Guilford Area Kiwanis Club.
